Six-foot-ten Center Doryan Onwuchekwa out of Oak Cliff Faith Academy in Dallas,Texas can make a legitimate case as the best two-way big in the class of 2024. Watching him play, it's easy to see why he already holds a handful of high-major offers from schools like Tennessee, UCLA, Texas and Kansas State. Even though his offensive arsenal is deep, he stands out with his awareness, defensive ability and sound fundamentals. Displaying good patience in the post, facing up and finding weak side cutters or keeping the ball high when making moves in traffic. On the defensive end, Onwuchekwa acts as a paint protector altering shots without fouling, walling up and using his 7’3” wingspan to block shots. He’s adept at starting the break with quick outlet passes to teammates for transition layups, a valuable skill that has gone scarce in the modern day game. Offensively, Onwuchekwa possesses all the skills to add value to any college system. His versatile skill set and high IQ make him a hard cover for opposing teams. Onwuchekwa uses his frame and physicality to bury defenders under the rim for well established low-post position. He is comfortable finishing over either shoulder and uses his strength to finish through contact. His elite footwork keeps defenders guessing using his wide base to execute drop steps from either block or using fakes to get bigs off balance executing step through moves to finish at the rim. When he isn’t punishing defenders in the paint, Onwuchekwa also spaces the floor with his ability to knock down the three ball off the catch, with his quick release and soft shooting touch. Onwuchekwa’s versatility as a traditional back to basket big who can also step out and stretch the floor makes him extremely valuable at the next level. He is the perfect blend of a traditional style big with a modern day skill set.
