Macaleab Rich has just committed to Jerome Tang and Kansas State. Rich is the third commit for the Wildcats 2023 class and will join four-star guards Dai Dai Ames and RJ Jones in Manhattan next fall.

Rich raised his stock and ascended as one of the top players in the state of Illinois this summer. He picked up a number of Division I offers playing with East St. Louis High School in the month of June and the South Western Illinois Jets grassroots program.

In this article, I breakdown Rich’s game and how I see him fitting in at Kansas State his freshman season.

Player Breakdown

Rich is a powerful 6’6 forward whose athleticism will have you on the edge of your seat at all times. Rich has the makeup and physical tools of a high-major tight end prospect and uses these tools to his advantage on the basketball court. He is an explosive two-foot jumper which leads to multiple highlight dunks and emphatic blocks reminiscent of volleyball spikes per game. Rich has shown the ability to create from the wing off the dribble, getting downhill for straight line drives and finishes at the rim. He is also an extremely active rebounder, especially on the offensive glass where he is seen frequently crashing for tip-dunks.

How the will fit in his freshman season at Kansas State

When Rich arrives at Kansas State, he will probably not be asked to be much of a scorer out the gate. Rich’s playing time will most likely come from the energy and effort he puts in on the defensive end and on the glass. He has the obvious athleticism and length to be a high-level defender in the Big 12. With continued development of some wing skills and an improved jumpshot, Rich will have the opportunity to become more of a scorer down the line.
