Josh Hubbard, the 56th ranked player in our 2023 rankings, has just verbally committed to Head Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss. Hubbard has been a major priority for the Ole Miss staff for many months.

Hubbard opened many eyes this spring and summer on the Nike EYBL circuit playing with Team Thad (TN). Going into his senior season of HS, Hubbard will have plenty of time to improve his game before college.

In this article, I break down Hubbard's game and how he will fit in at Ole Miss his freshman season.

Player Breakdown

Hubbard is a smaller guard, but his offensively abilities make up for his size. Hubbard is ones of the smoothest ball handlers and shot makers that I watched this spring and summer. Multiple times he would casually break his defender down with a series of dribble moves, then nail a NBA range three in the defenders face. The most lethal part of his game his obviously his shot making abilities. It does not matter who is in front of Hubbard, he will be able to make a play, whether that is for himself or a teammate. He can make shots from way beyond the three point arc or make some tough shots in the mid range area. Hubbard is a great passer as well. He is very smart in the pick and roll and makes some very impressive passes to rolling big men or other teammates around the perimeter.

How he will fit in at Ole Miss his freshman season

For Hubbard to earn minutes his freshman season, I see him having to play more of a point guard role instead of scoring the ball at a high rate like he is used to. Being a pass first point guard will help him stay on the floor, and Hubbard is fully capable of doing that. I can see Hubbard averaging 10-12 PPG with 6 APG. That is the kind of player that he is. He will do whatever it takes to win and will accept any role.
