Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn, a 4-star prospect from the class of 2023 decommitted from Purdue on August 3rd. Since the, Gibbs-Lawhorn has heard from some of the top schools in the country.

Last high school season at Montverde Academy (FL), he proved that he can play and score with anyone in the country. Gibbs-Lawhorn continued to excel on the court during this past grassroots season with the Indy Heat Gym Rats.

In this article, Gibbs-Lawhorn updates us on his recruitment, his upcoming senior season at Montverde Academy (FL), and more.

Talk about this spring and summer with the Indy Heat Gym Rats

Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn: "It was amazing. I haven't been home in like 6-7 months, so to see some of those guys again and play with the again was great. We all played with great team chemistry and I feel like that's what led us to the elite eight."

Talk about the Elite Eight run at Nike Peach Jam

Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn: "For the past 2-3 even four years, Indy Heat has been to the Elite Eight. One of my goals was to get them this year. I feel like we could have won this year but things happen, good and bad. I feel like the overall run was amazing."

We awarded you MVP of the Nike EYBL: Indy session, what did that feel like?

Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn: "Just a lot of hard work and dedication. Any coach that I played for will tell you that I am a hard worker. I usually spend all day in the gym getting better. People have to come get me and take me our of the gym. It's just a lot of hard work and dedication that goes into it."

Talk about being at Montverde Academy (FL) and winning a Geico National Championship

Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn: "A Geico championship in general is amazing. Most NBA greats have done that. It felt amazing especially for me. At Montverde, when I first got there I was the last man on the bench. The first couple of games Coach would not even look at me on the bench. I just used that as motivation. I put in a lot of hard work at practice, I was the first one at practice and the last one to leave. Coach only played like 6-7 guys in the Geico Tournament and I got myself into the seventh man spot."

What is it like playing under Head Coach Kevin Boyle?

Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn: "He keeps it real. He keeps it  more real than a lot of high school coaches. Coach Boyle is really the only coach in America that can tell a 5-star player that they are coming off the bench. It is not that many coaches that are doing that. I feel like that is a special factor about Coach Boyle."

Recruitment

Tell us about the schools that have reached out since your decommitment from Purdue

Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn: "I have heard from Texas, Virginia, Illinois, NC State, Memphis, North Carolina, Gonzaga, Kentucky, and Santa Barbara."

Out of all these schools, which schools reach out the most?

Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn: "As far as being more consistent I would say Illinois, Virginia, and Memphis, NC State, and Gonzaga talk to me the most."

What have you been talking about with the coaching staffs reaching out?

Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn: "Basically all the coaches that I talk to they want me to be an end of the shot clock type of player. Just the type of player that can go out there and get a bucket. They want me to lock up and play defense at the next level."

Will you cut your list of schools down?

Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn: "I will probably have a top list of schools. I don't really know when I am going to drop a top list of schools, but it will happen before I commit."

When do you want to be committed by?

Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn: "I want to commit during the season. During one of the games at halftime would be cool."
