2024 5-Star Ian Jackson: Exclusive Interview

Ian Jackson, a 6'4 guard out of New York City is one of the top rated players in the 2024 class. His overall feel for the game and skill set makes him the player that he is.

Jackson had a very successful spring and summer with the Wiz Kids (NY) on the 3SSB Circuit. He also attend many camps with other top talent from around the country and stood out. 

In this interview, Jackson breaks down his recruitment, this past grassroots season, his time training with Chris Brickley, and more. 

Talk about this spring and summer with the Wiz Kids (NY) on the 3SSB Circuit

Ian Jackson: "It was definitely different, being my first year on the circuit. I have been playing with the Wiz Kids since I was young. I am glad to be with them and to go through our first year on the circuit with them It was definitely something different."

What would you say you gained from this past grassroots season?

Ian Jackson: "I understood how to be a leader more really. Playing with them and understanding how I lead is how far we are going to get and win games. Playing each game with them each session taught me how to be a leader really."

You recently attended Steph Curry's camp, talk about that experience and what you learned from Curry himself

Ian Jackson: "Two things really, just to stay consistent and paying attention. Staying consistent is a big part in everything. Even as a person, that and just paying attention play a big role in your life."

Talk about the UA Elite 24 game

Ian Jackson: "It was great being around that group of guys. Being around other great talent at all times. Every practice was competitive. I really learned a lot from that group of guys and the coaches. The game was amazing. I enjoyed Chicago and definitely had fun."

You are going into your junior season at Cardinal Hayes (NY), what are your personal and team goals?

Ian Jackson: "As a team, win another championship really, that is one of the main goals. Personal goals, probably to win gatorade player of the year. What I really want is to win another championship, that is the main priority for me."

You have been working out with NBA Trainer Chris Brickley and playing in his pro runs, how has that been?

Ian Jackson: "The pro runs are humbling really. Being able to play with those pros and learning from them, like Carmelo Anthony, Kyle Anderson. They give me confidence to take certain shots and make shots. I definitely enjoyed it."

Talk about the overall recruitment process and how it has been going for you

Ian Jackson: "It has been going great. I am hearing from all the programs that I have been wanting to hear from since I was younger. They are all saying good things really. I am taking it slow right now but I am definitely enjoying the process. 

You have picked up some big offers from schools such as North Carolina and Kentucky, what did that feel like?

Ian Jackson: "That was definitely something different. I don't think I really understood it until it really hit me. Just being able to be recognized by those programs and having them want me to come to their school. They think I can do great things at their schools. It is very humbling and I appreciate coaches from each program."

What schools reach out the most?

Ian Jackson: "It is about six schools that I am hearing from right now and have been reaching out consistently. UCLA reaches out, Kentucky, Oregon, Kansas, UNC reaches out, I hear from Duke but they haven't offered yet."

Ian Jackson: "They all are kind of the same really. Each coach thinks I can come and be a one-and-done in their program and help them go far in the tournament. They all think that I would be a great fit for their program."

Do you have any official visits set up?

Ian Jackson: "The schools that I have mentioned, I have reached out to them. Me and my coaches are trying to figure out a good date to go out to some school, so we are in the process of that now."
