Yates included Gonzaga, Stanford, Washington, Texas, Houston, Arkansas, LSU, Auburn, and Baylor in his list of schools he still considering.

Below you can find the full in depth interview with Yates. He breaks down each one of his nine schools, his upcoming senior season at Beaumont United (TX), and this past grassroots season with LivOn-Fleur De Lis (LA)

Breakdown of his top nine schools

What does it feel like to finally start trimming your list down?

Wesley Yates: "It feels great. Honestly just trying to find the right fit for me I feel like that's what has a lot to do with it. Just going through all the schools and picking which ones were the best. It's about that time to start making these kind of decisions."

Breakdown each of your top nine schools

Gonzaga - "They are recruiting me as a one, the point guard. They feel like I can come in and play on the ball and off the ball. They also feel like they can develop me into a pro. They are going to let me play my game. Their guards come off a lot of ball screens. They win a lot and always get to march madness so they play on the biggest stage. Most of their guards get and stay in the league and have successful careers. Really they just want me to come in and play that point guard position, like a combo guard but being a point guard first."

Stanford: "I am a high academic kid so all the sacrifices I made when I was younger to get good grades is what they appreciate. They said I would play early there."

Washington: "My cousin coaches there so I have a really good bond with them. They want me to come in and do what I do best and that is get buckets. I feel like they will develop me pretty good. A lot of NBA players train there and they train with the kids. It is cool to have people around you that do what you are trying to do and they can help me along the way because they know what it takes."

Texas: "I went on my unofficial visit and it was real nice. They talk to me a lot. TJ Ford who played at Texas, I talk to him a lot and work out with him sometimes. They want me to come in and be the man and that is what I want to be. Playing on a great platform. They really just tell me that I can come in and have the chance to be a pro. Their strength and conditioning coach is good, I liked what he was talking about. Just Texas itself, in Austin, the capital it is really cool."

Houston: "My teammate is their right now, Terrance Arceneaux. Me and him got a good bond. Obviously we have two state championships so our bond is great. Coach Sampson wants me to come play the one and the two. They want me to play point guard role. I have a great relationship with those two guys (HC Kelvin Sampson and AC Kellen Sampson). Both of those guys are great people. There is never a dull moment with them. They have one of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the country. Alan Bishop knows what the is talking about. I like what he is doing. Houston plays really hard and works really hard. They mean business."

Arkansas: "I know AB (Anthony Black) and Nick Smith, they told me to come be a Razorback. I like the coaching staff and Coach Musselman. I talk to them a lot. They want me to come check it out. They get a lot of talent and the crowd is crazy, it is one of the best atmospheres in college basketball. The development of their players is crazy. Coach Muss, everybody knows he is a players coach. I really want to play for a players coach. He is a great, high energy person. He believes in his kids and lets them play.

LSU: "I have a good relationship with the coaching staff. It is a great program. When I went on my unofficial visit, I loved it. It was crazy. I have some family by campus so it made it even better. They develop pros and get people to the league. They let their guards play with freedom. They let them shoot it. They have a new coach, Matt McMahon. He has preached to me that I can come in and play on or off the ball, shoot the shots that I normally shoot, and allow me to be me.

Auburn: "It is great out there, the atmosphere is crazy. It was real nice when I went out there. I have family there too, my cousin played on the football team. Coach BP (Bruce Pearl) definitely allows his players to play. They shoot a lot of threes. My boy Aden Holloway just committed so I can see myself potentially teaming up with him. The way Coach BP allows his players to play just shows me how me and him could be very dangerous in that backcourt. Coach BP trusts his guards, he lets them shoot the kind of shots that they like to shoot."

Baylor: "Coach Drew and the whole coaching staff, every time I am around them, there isn't a dull moment. When I went on my visit I loved it. The development of the guards is crazy. My boy Ja'Kobe Walter is committed to them. I have been playing with him since I was younger so me and him have a real good connection. He told me to come be a Bear and team up with him one last time so we can both achieve our dreams. I just love the coaching staff and the culture at Baylor. I feel like I fit their playing style."

Do you have any official visits set up?

Wesley Yates: "I have my LSU official visit on September 10th weekend, and I have Texas official visit September 3rd weekend. That is the only two I have locked in right now. But I want to visit Arkansas and Gonzaga officials as well. I think my Gonzaga visit will be in October but I am not sure. Arkansas I am not sure of either but I definitely want to visit both of those schools officially."

Goals for your senior season at Beaumont United (TX)

Wesley Yates: "To get a three peat. Win state for the third time in a row and prove everybody wrong. Just play my game. I want to show people that I can defend so just come out and show the I can defend full court, off or on the ball. People know I can score but I want people to know that I have that in me. I am trying to play above the rim a little bit more. I think people will see that a lot more this upcoming season."
