Coen Carr, a 6'7 SF from Greenville, SC has just announced his verbal commitment to HC Tom Izzo and Michigan State. The Spartans joined Carr's recruitment late but made a heavy push to land him.

Coen Carr is one of the most athletic players in the class of 2023. His jumping abilities, speed with or without the ball in his hands, and lateral movement make him the player that he is. Carr exploded on the scene during this past high school season at Legacy Early College (SC). His high flying dunks and crafty finishes around the rim grabbed the attention of many colleges around the country. Carr is a gifted scorer but defensively is where he really impresses me. He has quick feet which help him stay in front of opposing ball handlers. With always being one of the highest jumpers in the gym, Carr blocks a lot of shots. Offensively he has a lot of tools. Catching lobs, filling lanes, and doing the little things help Carr be successful on offense.
What he brings to Michigan State as a freshman
Carr will be looked at for his defensive skills his freshman season. Standing at 6'7, Carr will be able to guard multiple positions at the next level so HC Tom Izzo will lean on Carr for that. Offensively I think that he will have some adjusting to do. Carr will not be looked at for the Spartans main source of offense but he still will need to produce. If Carr doesn't force shots and does the little things on offense, I believe he will be able to produce and be a spark sometimes with catching a lob or getting a big time dunk.
