Ohio State Head Coach Chris Holtmann and staff have landed one of the top wings in the class of 2023. Scotty Middleton, a 6'6 versatile player verbally committed to Buckeyes this evening.

Holtmann and his staff prioritized Middleton from the beginning of his recruitment.

Middleton had a very successful high school season at Sunrise Christian (KS) where he played useful minutes off the bench. This grassroots season, Middleton continued his success with Brad Beal Elite (MO) and was their second leading scorer.

Below you can find the full player breakdown on Middleton and what he brings to Ohio State his freshman season.

Full player breakdown

Middleton is a very versatile player. Standing at 6'6, he can play multiple positions and produce will from each. Offensively, he has many tools to his game. Middleton is most productive when doing the little things. Grabbing offensively rebounds for put backs, using minimal dribbles to get into his pull up, and filling lanes in transition. Defensively, Middleton is very good. His long arms and quick feet allow him to rack up steals, deflections, and blocks.

What does he bring to Ohio State as a Freshman?

Middleton will stay on the floor with his length and defensive abilities. Being able to guard at the next level and Middleton can do just that. His on-ball defense is very active and he disrupts opposing ball handlers. Offensively Middleton will have to most likely get most of his points in transition. He runs the lane well and plays above the rim. In the half court Middleton will need to be able to knock down open threes and one dribble pull ups. He hits the offensive glass hard and that is a tool that could help him make his time on the floor valuable.
