OFFENSE

Offensive Role: Initiator

Strengths:

Attacking guard who can score from three levels. Lefty. Nifty handle. Hesitation dribble is highly functional. Good left to right crossover. Has a burst of speed then can change speeds suddenly. Plus pull up shooter and off the dribble. Great at creating space with the stepback. Plus shooter at the free throw line. Rated excellent in pick and roll ball handler situations (92%ile), via synergy. Rejects the screen well. 93%ile in pick and roll including passes. Finishes well against length. Plus floater game. Utilizes hopsteps, eurosteps and good body control in the air. Adjust his arm angles well. Super effective at using his elbow and forearm both as a ball handler and finisher to create space. Draws a lot of contact this way. Can finish off the wrong foot.

Weaknesses:

Plays mostly on instincts. Needs to become better as a playmaker for his teammates.  25.7% turnover rate in the half court, via Synergy. Too many ball handling turnovers into multiple defenders.  Can cut down on the overdribbling. Doesn’t have the natural feel of a point guard. Erratic decision maker. Doesn’t make more than basic reads. Off target ball placement. Flustered when double teamed. Shot IQ is lacking. Takes less efficient shots early in the shot clock. Hunts shots off the dribble. Shooting form isn't as conducive to spot up shooting. Loose, swaying mechanics. Doesn’t hold his follow through. Could also be a more ready position.

DEFENSE

Defensive Role: Point of Attack / Two Position

Strengths:

Rated excellent in every defensive category. 97%ile as a defender overall, via Synergy. Has the foot speed and balance to be at the point of attack. Very good at tagging his man off the ball. Has the quickness and speed to recover from screens when chasing. Should be able to defend the next back court position. Has some nice flashes protecting the rim. Everything from this point on is going to be effort related as he possesses the requisite athleticism.

Weaknesses:

Some defensive stats are obviously misleading (i.e holding opponents to 12.9 FG%. More of an indication to missed opportunities by the offense’s part than good defense Weak shot contests. Plays lazily. Too much swiping at the ball. Sometimes he doesn’t bother to put a hand up. Even in close quarters. Misses his rotations. Doesn’t fight hard enough through ball screens.

Athleticism/Frame:

Solid height and length for a lead guard. Wiry frame at 6’2 but looks like he can put on weight. Will get pushed around a bit vs. bigger players, but that’s to be expected. Surprising vertical athlete in the open court. Can dunk with defenders trailing. Changes directions well and can decelerate. Plus lateral quickness.

Additional Info:

Swing factors: Feel, decision-making, passing

Mentality overview: Dog eat dog mentality. Scorer first
